Artist Talk: Lua Kobayashi (Online)

The Griffin Museum is pleased to host and artist talk and reception for Lua Kobayashi's exhibition The Persistence of Memories, on view September 11 - October 25, 2026. Please join for a special conversation with Lua, Cummings Resident, about her new installation.

The Persistence of Memories comes from Lua's conversations with Japanese-Americans of the greater Boston area, during which she was entrusted with memorabilia of a shared historical heritage and gifts for the future generation. These personal and significant objects currently inhabit the museum's Griffin Gallery in the form of projections as an immersive visual experience that honors the often unseen histories of Japanese American communities.

About the artist

Lua Kobayashi is a mixed Japanese American and Uruguayan interdisciplinary artist based in Southern California. Working across photography, video, and installation, her practice explores memory, displacement, and cultural identity through personal and community histories. Her work creates immersive spaces that examine how stories are carried across generations, preserving overlooked histories while fostering remembrance, connection, and belonging.
